Today, we join the global community in celebrating World Humanitarian Day, a day dedicated to honoring the work of those who selflessly contribute to humanitarian causes around the world. At Chepkitale Indigenous Peoples Development Project, this day holds special significance as we reflect on our commitment to safeguarding the rights and dignity of the Chepkitale Ogiek community.
Humanitarianism is about ensuring that every individual’s fundamental rights are respected and protected. For years, CIPDP has been at the forefront of defending the land rights, cultural heritage and livelihoods of the Chepkitale Ogiek. Our work is deeply rooted in the principles of humanitarianism—advocating for the vulnerable, providing a voice for the marginalized and striving to create a future where the Ogiek people can live freely on their ancestral lands.
On this World Humanitarian Day, we acknowledge the challenges faced by the Chepkitale Ogiek and renew our commitment to supporting their struggle for justice. From legal battles to ensure land ownership to initiatives that promote sustainable livelihoods, our efforts are guided by the belief that protecting indigenous rights is a humanitarian imperative.
